It’s taken me a while to dial this in, but I finally have figured out my ultimate all-things-toilet setup on trail.

Here’s what I pack:

CuloClean Portable Bidet and bottle

This tiny bidet weighs basically nothing (12g?!) and fits on the top of drink bottles. I’ll bring an empty drink bottle and the bidet screws on.

In my experience you want a combination of enough water in the bottle – but not too much, or the pressure has the water coming up the moment it’s upside down (water, everywhere!)

I’ll usually fill a 750mL bottle around half way. Would recommend testing this out at home before you head on your hike!

Toilet Paper

I still pack toilet paper, as you want to dry yourself after using the bidet. Some find the bidet doesn’t get rid of everything (imo it depends on your bowl movements, everyone is different!)

Kula Cloth (or Pee Cloth)

I’m a recent convert to Kula Cloths, also known as the pee cloth.

I hang mine on the outside of my pack. You wipe using the inner (black) layer and the patterned layer is waterproof. I find when you air it on your pack it doesn’t smell, but if you pack it away, it does get a bit gross smelling. I’m yet to use it on a rainy day hike, so will report back!

I find it’s great at night when I need to pee (less moving parts compared to toilet paper) and helps ease the worry of running out of toilet paper.

Lightweight Trowel

Even though I bring a Kula Cloth, the trowel is for burying toilet paper and #2’s on trail. It’s lightweight and easy to use. IMO is nothing more unsightly than seeing bits of toilet paper on trail, or worse.. human waste (yuck!)

Hand Sanitiser

I have a tiny bottle that I bought from Daiso that’s refillable. We have a big bottle of hand sanitiser at home that I use to refill my smaller bottle. Economical and clean!

I hang my Kula Cloth on my pack, and everything else goes in a dry bag that I hang off my pack or in the top in an easy to reach place.

Happy hiking friends!
