Are you visiting Tokyo and want to take photos of some beautiful places? As someone who used to call Tokyo home, I’ve put together a guide to the most Instagrammable places in Tokyo.

Whether you’re an avid Instagrammer, photographer or just on the lookout for cool places to visit, this guide has you covered:

1. Shibuya Crossing

Shibuya Crossing is Japan’s most famous crossing, and it would be remiss of me to exclude it from this list of Instagrammable places in Tokyo!

The best place to get a view? From the Shibuya Crossing Starbucks. Grab a coffee, head on upstairs, and sit back and watch the world’s busiest intersection in action!

2. Takeshita Street, Harajuku

Takeshita Street is Harajuku’s most famous street. Here you’ll find bucket loads of color, bright lights and delicious desserts (helloooo crepes!)

3. Sensoji Temple, Asakusa

The Sensoji Temple is one of Tokyo’s grandest and most beautiful temples.

At Sensoji Temple, you’ll get to see how the traditional side of Japanese culture fits in with the modern city of Tokyo. One of my favorite photography spots is at the front gate.

4. The Tokyo city skyline

Tokyo’s skyline is iconic.

From incredible skyscrapers to the Tokyo tower, this is a great place to get a sense for how buzzing this city is.

One of the most budget-friendly places to see the Tokyo Skyline is the observation deck at the Tokyo World Trade Center (entry is 620 JPY).

You can also see views of the Tokyo skyline at Tokyo Tower or Tokyo Skytree, but these aren’t nearly as budget friendly.

5. Tokyu Plaza, Omotesando

Most popular with Instagram influencers, this spot is a must for those looking for Instagrammable places in Tokyo. Why? The escalator entrance to Tokyu Plaza is surrounded by tiny mirrors that reflect off each other. It’s like a piece of artwork!

6. Golden Gai, Shinjuku

Located in the neighborhood of Shinjuku, this series of small alleyways made up of small bars and restaurants.

There are 6 alleyways which make up the Golden Gai, which is best visited in the evening where it’s filled with ambiance.

7. Meguro River

If you’re visiting during Cherry Blossom season, this is a must!

During one of my first visits to Tokyo, we visited the Meguro River, and I still remember it, even though years have passed. It was such a beautiful spot (and the cherry blossoms during spring weren’t too bad either ;))

8. Gōtokuji Temple

This Buddhist temple is famous for the legend that it is the birthplace of “Maneki-neko” which you’ll recognize as the beckoning cat or the good luck cat. When visiting, you’ll find never ending beckoning cat statues (cute!)

9. Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine)

Meiji Jingu is one of Tokyo’s most visited Shrines.

On the walk up to the shrine, you’ll spot large sake barrels. Sake barrels are offered to the deities at Meiji Jingu. They’re also incredibly photogenic, making them a great spot to snap an oh-so-instagrammable shot.

10. teamLab Borderless at Mori Building Digital Art Museum

If you’ve spent any time on the ol’ insta, chances are, you’ve probably seen photos at this sensory filled exhibition. This is an immersive art experience, and definitely worth the time if you love unique art exhibitions.

11. Soho Odaiba

The Soho Odaiba is a strange addition to the list of Instagrammable places in Tokyo, but it’s here for a good reason!

Soho Odaiba is an office space where each door has is painted a different color. This creates a cool rainbow-like pattern, making it an Instagram or photography lover’s dream!

Regardless of whether you’re in Tokyo for a few weeks or a few days, there are endless opportunities to photograph.

While there are some great places listed in this guide to Instagrammable places in Tokyo, you’re bound to find more beyond these spots!

Happy traveling, my friends!
