Somehow, you’ve come to my Privacy Policy & Disclosure page (which should make for some fun reading – yay!) I’ve got some things I’d like to disclose with you so that you can feel comfortable reading my site, knowing that I am being respectful of your privacy and data.

This Privacy Policy will inform you what personal data we (The Wandering Suitcase!) may collect and how it may be used.


What personal data we collect


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Any forms located on this website will always indicate to you if your email will be added to a mailing list.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

You may download free content from The Wandering Suitcase and subscribe to our email newsletter.

All newsletters sent may contain tracking pixels. The pixel is embedded in emails and allows an analysis of the success of online marketing campaigns. Because of these tracking pixels, we may see if and when you open an email and which links within the email you click. We use this information to adapt the content of future newsletters to the interests of the user.

This behavior will not be passed on to third parties.


Who we share your data with

The Wandering Suitcase may use third-party service providers to service various aspects of the Website. Each third-party service provider’s use of your personal information is dictated by their respective privacy policies.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics tracks Website usage (including user actions and referrals). Google Analytics may capture your IP address, but no other personal information is captured by Google Analytics.


ConvertKit is used for delivery of email updates and newsletters. All user information such as name and email address is stored with ConvertKit for purposes of delivering email updates and communications. Please refer to ConvertKit’s privacy policy for further information.


Leadpages is used to create email capture pages and opt-in boxes. Please refer to Leadpages’ privacy policy for more information.

Social Warfare

Social Warfare is a WordPress plugin that we use to create social media share buttons. Social Warfare does not collect any personal data, and you can find out more about how they are GDPR compliant here.


SiteGround is our hosting platform. They may receive your IP address, cookie information, and any data they need to ensure our website is visible and running to the public.


WordPress is the company we use to create our online website. They may receive analytics data from you, such as your IP address, your name, and email if you comment on our posts and other data.

Please note that each of these 3rd parties may also have 3rd party companies they share with. Each company should have a privacy policy detailing more information about how they share your data.


We use an advertising network called Ezoic, which is why you might sometimes see ads when you are scrolling through our website! You can find out more about Ezoic’s privacy policy here.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

The Website does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 16.
